Wedding Day Bridal Portraits

Thinking about taking some bridal party shots before your ceremony? Or should you wait till after the ceremony for the majority of your wedding portraits. Consider that your hair and makeup will look ultra-fresh if you take photos right away, rather than getting windblown or droopy from the heat. A non-traditional first look before your ceremony can give you some extra time to have your wedding portraits taken.

Fall Mini Sessions

It’s that time of the year again, when Christmas trees start popping before you ever started thinking about your Thanksgiving Dinner meal plans. I love this time of the year, especially as the weather here in Hawaiʻi starts to shift from hot and humid to cool and breezy. But it is also the time for Fall Mini Portrait Sessions. Whether it’s for updating your annual family photos or for sending out your Christmas cards it’s that time to start thinking about family photo sessions.

I’m am continuing to take a limited number of full Family Portrait Sessions, but I have set aside a few days for mini-sessions at a few of my most popular locations. These sessions usually book out quickly, so I recommend scheduling your family session so that we can have your Christmas cards ready in time to get them out after Thanksgiving.

Session dates are listed below. Click on the link for more information on sessions, available times, and details on how to book your session.

Ensure Your Prints Stand The Test of Time

Your wedding photos deserve the more than ending up on a flash drive. Framed prints are a great way to display your photos for many years to come. Ensure that your framed wedding photos stand the test of time by using archival quality, acid-free frames and mats. They will keep your pictures from aging and yellowing. For this reason we have spent a long time searching for the very best printing processes and highest quality framing materials.

Alyssa Senior Portrait at Ala Moana Beach Park

Ala Moana Beach Park, Honolulu

Summer is just about finished with most students back in school, and with that high school seniors are on the lookout to get their senior portraits taken. I remember when I took my senior portraits with one of my photography idols, Jon Mozo. They were a lot of fun and a great way to highlight a start to a new chapter in my life. Fast forward to today, I strive to keep that same level of professionalism while maintaining a fun and energetic atmosphere.

When Alyssa came to visit Hawaiʻi on vacation with her family, it was the perfect opportunity to capture those epic senior portraits. What teenage girl from Ohio wouldn't want an iconic sunset beach photo in Hawaiʻi? We planned to have her portraits taken at Ala Moana Beach Park because it offered a great variety of location for photos. Just see for yourself. This was a lot of fun and another great senior portrait moment for the books.

Pham | Sunrise Vow Renewal Ceremony on the Beach

Waimānalo Beach, Waimānalo

Chris lived in Hawaiʻi many years ago, and as he returned with his family for their summer vacation it was only fitting for him to renew their wedding vows at a place he once called home. The beach along Waimānalo Bay always was a special place, especially when the sun rises and illuminates the mountains from Makapuʻu to Kailua. Everything about this beach is beautiful and served for the perfect location for their romantic wedding vow renewals.

How to Create A Moodboard For Your Wedding

All of our couples are unique and their wedding plans are all very different. In order to create personalized photography and cinema for your wedding day, we want to get to know you better. To help us get to know you, we ask that you create a moodboard.

What is a Moodboard?

A moodboard is simply an idea or inspiration board where you can display your favorite images. Everything added to a moodboard communicates aspects of your style and creative preferences.

For example, you might love the angle or composition, a specific pose, the type lighting, the editing style of a photograph or video. Your board allows us to get to know you better and clearly understand what you love.

What is a Shot List?

A shot list is a detailed list of must-have shots for a photographer to follow and check off throughout the wedding day.  As there may be some areas of your wedding where you have to have a photograph taken, shot lists are typically discouraged, as time is spent focusing on recreating specific images rather than capturing the moments as they happen. If there are need-to-have shots on your wedding day, please let us know so that we can ensure to capture it, but help us create a better experience by putting together a moodboard.

How to Create a Moodboard

  1. Create a Pinterest account (or sign into your existing account)
  2. Create a Board called “Wedding Moodboard” (Be sure to leave it as public)
  3. Visit the The Loving Eyes Pinterest, and The Loving Eyes Blog and “Pin” images that you like, making sure you add a detailed description of why you like the image.  The majority of your images should come from our work, but we are open to work from other photographers.
  4. Add in a few more images that you like from around the web (along with descriptive captions).
  5. Once complete, send the moodboard URL to us. You can add it in to your Wedding Photography Prep Questionnaire.
  6. After reviewing the moodboard, we will set up a time to review the moodboard together and to review the details of the event.

 Characteristics of an Ideal Moodboard

Here are a few characteristics of an ideal moodboard:

  • It does not have too many images (20-30 is just fine)
  • It is NOT a shot List
  • It has detailed descriptions
  • It includes shots from your wedding venue or similar wedding venues

In the end, our goal is to create a truly unique experience for all of our couples and hope that this process will make that easier.

Neyva and Elezaldy | Engagement at Kailua Beach

Kailua Beach, Kailua

Neyva came to visit her fiance while he was stationed in Honolulu and thought it would be a perfect opportunity to have their engagement photos taken. She fell in love with Kailua Beach and really wanted to have her photos taken at that location - which posed a slight problem. Kailua Beach is very popular and half-naked sunbathers don't make the most attractive background objects. In the end, we were able to find some great spots for their romantic beach photos and we were all thrilled with the way that their photos turned out.

Beattie Family Newborn Portrait with Baby Jason

Baby Jason was born June 8, 2018 and welcomed home by a loving family. Big sister, Gracelynn and big brother, Daniel were ready and waiting to smother their new baby brother with hugs and kisses. There is so much love in this family that it is obvious to see in every photo. Moments like these are so special and I am so blessed to be able to capture these newborn moments forever.
