70th Birthday Party On Top of Waikiki

Altitude 37 at Hilton Waikīkī Beach, Waikīkī

Family from around the world flew in to celebrate Micky’s 70th birthday. Micky’s daughter, Preet, had arranged for their festivities to take place on the top of Waikīkī in the Altitude 37 lounge at Hilton Waikīkī Beach Hotel. The venue was perfect for their party. The lounge was small enough for their intimate party with enough space for the dancing and singing that would take place at the end of the night. And that view - the sun setting over the Waikīkī skyline. This family knows how to party and we had a great time celebrating with everyone. Congratulations Micky on your 70th birthday. We wish you many more years of happiness, singing, and dancing.

Hallie and Christopher Engagement Photography at Waiʻalae Beach Park

Waiʻalae Beach Park, Waiʻalae

Hallie booked her flight from Mississippi to visit her boyfriend who has been stationed here in the Army. Little did she know that upon arrival, Christopher had bigger plans for her time here. After a surprise proposal, we scheduled an engagement photo session. I absolutely love how fun they were to work with. Just look at our photos from their session. So in love with nothing but the rest of their lives ahead.

Sydney & James Covell

Wedding Bells for the Covells

Waialua is a truly beautiful part of the island, with long untouched sandy beaches backed by stunning sunsets in the high-reaching mountains. Most weddings, I sit down ahead of time with the bride and groom to discuss great locations where we would want to have some photos taken. But with a wedding at the Hawaiʻi Polo Club, we didn't have to travel too far to find great locations for beautiful wedding photos.

Both Sydney and James were so easy going. It is easy to see how much they truly love each other. I love it when you don't have to pose somebody and they natural beauty shines through in every photo. Congratulations Sydney and James!

ʻEwa Sunsets

I think our original plan was to find parking at Ko Olina near Paradise Cove for some beautiful beach photos during sunset. Often times the best photos are found when we deviate from a set plan - so when Paradise Cove didn't work out we weren't too disappointed. The short walk around the corner took us to a little more secluded area, Milo Cove. The intimate setting was a perfect for an engagement shoot.

What made the entire session perfect was the sunset. Vog has a way of creating the most beautiful sunsets and this humid, still day did not disappoint. Just see for yourself.

Katie & Kyle Whitney

Rustic North Shore Ceremony

It all began before they even knew what was in store. The longing for adventure deep in Katie's heart lead her to Hawaiʻi in 2013, not fully knowing the journey ahead. Left and right she found herself surrounded by incredible people including the tall, golden, curly-haired, Kyle Whitney.

Her Surfing Cowboy

Their love story began on a beach which would provide a great setting for a beautiful wedding. However, growing up in Virginia, it has always been Katie's desire to get married on the country-side, surrounded by free roaming horses. The two would not seemingly fit together, especially in Hawaiʻi, until the couple stumbled across the vast Kawailoa Ranch on the North Shore of Oʻahu. In this beach-side ranch, two of Katie's dreams would flow together into a beautiful rustic wedding where she would say I-do to her surfing cowboy.

Sunset at Waikīkī

And now for the big day. Walking through this season with this beautiful couple was such a special experience. Being there for them during their engagement. Retelling their love story. And now capturing their nuptials.

Congratulations Loriann and Shannon!

Cruising in Kewalo

We spent an afternoon last month with couple Loriann Yukihiro and Shannon Silva down at Kewalo. Two surfers who met in the waves, cruising down at one of their favorite surf spots. And although the waves were big and the conditions were great, they ended up staying dry with me and the camera.

Oʻahu's Hidden Secret

I think that I have driven by and visited Puʻu Ualakaʻa State Park (Tantalus) many times and I have to be honest - I have overlooked this little spot and haven't even given it a second thought.

Michelle and Charles decided to get married at Tantalus, but their choice of location for the ceremony was not the typical spot at the lookout. There is a small out-cropping of pine trees on your way up the road that hosted this quaint, yet very beautiful ceremony.

Breathtaking Sunset Views

I think the best part of their location was that it is located next to the (also hidden) Nutridge Estate. During our wrap-up of their formal shots, the care-taker offered his estate and breathtaking sunset view of Downtown Honolulu. Naturally I was excited to take advantage of the beautiful, albeit quickly fading, sunset.

Next time you drive through Tantalus, stop in at the Nutridge Estate and check out this little hidden gem.

Jaelyse & Peter Raneses

Garden Wedding On The Beach

Often times you come across these hidden gems of beaches. Secluded with clear, blue waters and a picturesque view in the background. These beaches are harder to come by in a small yet crowded island like Oahu. So when bride and groom, Jaelyse and Peter, found this little beachside estate, they were ecstatic.

My part in this wonderful ceremony was to take in the beauty of the venue and showcase the bride and groom in it. The highlight of my day was happening upon Jaelyse and Peter praying for each other before the ceremony around the corner the beach house (Peter still kept to the old-fashioned notion of seeing the bride for the first time as she walks down the aisle). It is encouraging to see a couple so devoted to each other and everyone around them can witness the love that they have for each other. This wedding day was truly a spectacular day.

Sherry and Jonathan Proposal

Lanikai Beach, Kailua

Kayak Adventure and a Diamond Ring

I never thought I'd be one to do an undercover, hidden camera engagement photo shoot, but when one of my best friend's boyfriend approached me that he was going to propose, I couldn't think of any better way to document the special occasion. The plan was perfect, kayak at one of the world's most beautiful beaches, but secretly pop the question just before launching off. Congratulations Sherry and Jonathan!

North Shore Through A Lensbaby

Lensbaby Sweet 35 Optic

Just picked up the Sweet 35 optic for my Lensbaby, and I was looking for a place and occasion just to break it in – figuratively speaking.

Head over to the North Shore, what better place. And for a perfect day at the beach celebrating my second wedding anniversary. Great food at Haleiwa, pristine waters to stand-up paddle, sharing it all with my wife – perfect lens to capture a perfect day.
